1st Sunday of Advent - Year B - First Sunday of Advent & ‘Songs of Advent’
This weekend, we celebrate the First Sunday of Advent. Advent is a season of the liturgical year observed in most Christian denominations as a time of expectant waiting and preparation for both the celebration of the Nativity of Christ at Christmas and the return of Christ at the Second Coming.
In this Sunday’s first reading (Jeremiah 33:14-16), Jeremiah reveals the promise of the Lord made to the house of Israel, that a Branch of David shall do what is right and just, and Judah and Jerusalem shall be saved. In this Sunday’s Gospel (Luke 21:25-36), Jesus tells his disciples that there will be signs before his Second Coming, and that they should watch and pray to be able to stand with confidence before the Son of Man.
In honour of the start of Advent, we would like to share our latest video ‘Songs of Advent’, a collection of 8 traditional and newer Advent songs to help enhance your prayers.
