"Holy Is His Name" is a hymn based on the Canticle or Song of Mary (Luke 1:46-55), which she proclaims after her jubilant meeting with her relative Elizabeth, pregnant with St. John the Baptist.

This canticle is not only the inspiration for "Holy Is His Name," it has been a daily hallmark of the prayer of the Church for centuries.
