The Ascension Of The Lord - Year A - The Ascension of the Lord & “Jubilate Deo”

Ascension is a solemnity that sustains the hope of Christians that one day we shall be where Christ is. Our faith teaches us that: “Jesus Christ, the head of the Church, precedes us into His Father’s glorious kingdom, so that we, the members of his body, may live in the hope of one day being with him forever.”

Jesus knew that his apostles needed help to succeed, so he instructed them to, “…stay in the city until you are clothed with the power from on high.” As an experienced master, he knows the terrain we are about to walk, how challenging our task is, and that the Holy Spirit can help us.

Therefore, Ascension marks the beginning of the fulfillment of Christ’s promise to us. In today’s Gospel (Matthew 28:19-20), Jesus tells his apostles, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” So as we celebrate the Ascension of Christ this weekend and expect the fulfillment of his promise on Pentecost Sunday, let us rejoice and be joyful in the Lord!

In honour of this Gospel, we would like to share our latest video, "Jubilate Deo", a beautiful song based on Psalm 100 by Peter Anglea calling all of us to be joyful in the Lord, and to serve the Lord with gladness!
