26th Sunday in Ordinary Time - Year C - Salvator Mundi, Salva Nos(O Saviour of the World, Save Us)
In this Sunday’s Gospel (Luke 16:19-31), Jesus tells the parable of the rich man and Lazarus. While alive, the rich man does nothing to help Lazarus, a poor beggar. When he dies and goes to Hell, the rich man asks Abraham for some relief and he is declined. He also asks Abraham if he can go and warn his brothers, but once again is declined, as his brothers, “…have Moses and the Prophets; they should listen to them.”
Even the richest person cannot buy salvation. This comes from being faithful to the word of God, and through Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the world.
In honour of this Gospel, we’d like to share our latest video, “Salvator Mundi”, a beautiful Taizé chant whose lyrics translated mean “O Saviour of the world, save us.” This chant is often sung during Taizé prayer services, Lent and other solemn Mass times.
The 'Salvator Mundi' paintings featured in the video have a rich history, from original Byzantine art to the controversial Leonardo Da Vinci painting, also known as 'The Lost Leonardo'. Search ‘Salvator Mundi’ on Wikipedia for more information on all the paintings.
