23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time - Year C - “In Every Age, O God, You Have Been Our Refuge”

In this Sunday’s Psalm (Psalm 90), the response is, “In every age, O Lord, you have been our refuge.

According to the psalm’s title, “A Prayer of Moses the man of God,” Psalm 90 was authored by Moses. Since he lived around 1400 BC, this means Psalm 90 is the oldest of the psalms and Moses is the first composer of sacred hymnody. In this case, Moses was praying for the children of Israel to learn an important life lesson. What should have been a relatively short journey from Egypt to Israel turned out to be a 40-year excursion of defeat, discouragement and death. The lesson that Moses learned during this time was to live purposefully in light of eternity.

In honour of this Psalm, we’d like to share our latest video, “In Every Age”, a beautiful hymn based on Psalm 90 by Janet Sullivan Whitaker whose lyrics remind us that in every age, God has been our refuge and our hope. Perfect for an offertory hymn and Easter Vigil.
