19th Sunday in Ordinary Time - Year C - The Promise of Abraham and “We Walk By Faith”

In this Sunday’s first reading (Wis. 18:6-9), the first Passover is recalled, when the faithful people of God prayed behind closed doors while the Angel of Death struck at the firstborn of Egypt. In the second reading (Heb. 11:1-19), Abraham, our father in faith, relies on the confident assurance of what he hopes for. “Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

In honour of this Sunday’s readings, we’d like to share our latest video “We Walk By Faith”, Marty Haugen’s setting of a nineteenth century text by Henry Alford, which beautifully complements both of our readings today:

We walk by faith and not by sight,
no gracious words we hear,
of Him who spoke as none e'er spoke,
yet we believe Him near.
