Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe - Year A - Christ the King & “Because the Lord Is My Shepherd”

Every year on the last Sunday in Ordinary Time, the Catholic Church observes the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe — also known as the Feast of Christ the King — a relatively recent addition to the Church’s liturgical calendar, instituted just under a century ago by Pope Pius XI.

Bishop Robert Barron said in one of his homilies that this feast “...sums up what the Christian life is all about. All the other celebrations of the year are leading you toward that conclusion, that Christ must be king. It affirms that we belong utterly to him; that we can say, with St. Paul, “It is no longer I who live but Christ who lives in me.” If we say anything else, we are horsing around with Christianity and not really living it. If we pay lip service to Jesus but do not submit completely to him, we are fooling around and not treating him as the King of our lives. If we let him into one or two rooms of the house and not every room, he isn’t our King."

In honour of this Solemnity and this weekend’s Psalm, we would like to share our latest video, ‘Because the Lord Is My Shepherd’, a beautiful hymn composed by Christopher Walker and based on Psalm 23, the great Shepherd psalm.
