30th Sunday in Ordinary Time - Year C - Turn Our Hearts to You, O God
In this Sunday's First Reading (Sirach 35:20-22), Sirach reminds us that, “The prayer of the humble pierces the clouds, and it will not rest until it reaches its goal.”
In this weekend’s Gospel (Luke 18:9-14), Jesus tells the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector going to the temple to pray. Their differing approaches to prayer reinforce that pride brings no true reward and only projects an ‘image’, while in humble prayer, true values are seen. Jesus then says “…whoever exalts himself will be humbled, but whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”
In honour of this reading and Gospel, we would like to share our latest video, "Turn Our Hearts", a meditative, Taizé style piece by Barbara Bridge with an ostinato refrain that can be sung during meditation, prayers, and during Lent & any penitential season or forgiveness or reconciliation-themed Sunday. Its refrain is a humble prayer to the Lord, asking for healing, forgiveness and peace:
“Turn our hearts to you, O God,
with you there is healing,
wholeness and forgiveness,
freedom from fear,
lasting peace.”
