2nd Sunday of Lent - Year B - Transfiguration & “Lord, Here Am I'“

There was a young boy named Rocky Dennis. His life was loosely depicted in the film, “Mask”. Rocky had a rare disease that caused his skull and bones in his face to grow larger than they should. His face was misshapen and disfigured, and people would avoid him. He went to an amusement park with friends. In the House of Mirrors, his friends all laughed at how distorted their bodies and faces looked, but when Rocky looked into the trick mirrors, it is different. The mirror distorts his face in such a way that it appears normal, conventionally handsome, and for the first time Rocky’s friends see him in a whole new way. They see from the outside what he is on the inside, a fine young man.

Something like this happens to Jesus in this past Sunday’s Gospel. During this transfiguration, Jesus’ disciples saw Him in a whole new way. For the first time they saw from the outside what He is on the inside, the glorious Son of God. And although this transfiguration portrays Jesus in glory, it still bears a striking similarity to the Agony in the Garden. No matter what’s going on in your life, God is in control. Never lose heart. Do not be afraid. God’s plan for our lives will always lead us through whatever we are experiencing. Our transfiguration comes when we are willing to place before God all that blinds us and keeps us from trusting him.

Let this moment be our moment of transfiguration. We ask God to break the chains that bind us! We ask God to speak a healing word into our lives. We ask God to lead us and guide us on this journey as we strive to change. Jesus is pardon for the sinner and a shepherd who invites us to listen. God’s mission has a church and a people who seek what is right and just. We are his pilgrim people following Jesus, the one who God calls his beloved. We are called to be attentive to moments where God is revealed in our lives, to thank God for all our blessings, and to answer the call when needed.

In honour of this past weekend’s Gospel, we would like to share our latest video, "Lord, Here Am I", a beautiful Christian anthem by Jay Althouse whose lyrics ask the Lord for direction and guidance, and ends with the closing lyric, "Ready and willing, Lord, here am I".
