11th Sunday in Ordinary Time - Year A - Make Me A Channel of Your Peace (Prayer of St. Francis)
In this past Sunday’s Gospel (Matthew 9:36-10:8), Jesus emphazised the number of people to be saved by hearing his message, by saying, “The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few.” St. Matthew then names the chosen disciples, and Jesus sends them out with specific instructions as the powers they have are a gift from God.
One morning in February 1208, St. Francis was taking part in a Mass in the chapel of St. Mary of the Angels, near which he had by then built himself a hut in Assissi, Italy. The Gospel of the day was the same "Commissioning of the Twelve" from the Book of Matthew and St. Francis was inspired to devote himself to a life of poverty. Having obtained a coarse woolen tunic, the dress then worn by the poorest Umbrian peasants, he tied it around himself with a knotted rope and went about exhorting the people of the countryside to penance, brotherly love, and peace.
In honour of this Gospel and St. Francis of Assissi, we would like to share our latest video, "Make Me A Channel of Your Peace", also known as the “Prayer of St. Francis”, a well-known hymn composed by Sebastian Temple.
